First day of classes

Filed under: Uncategorized — ivan @ 7:48 pm

Today was the first day of classes. It is pretty scary to see all these people all at once on the hallways and on campus. All the American girlies in their nineteens looking to explore a new city. You have got to love them. Well there are all kinds of girls really — up to you to choose from if you were that kind of guy. You could get the Quebecer chick that lived in an anglophone area and doesn’t buy any of the Parti Quebecois racist bullshit. So many of the them arts chix!

Let me describe one of them for you…. she studies psychology, and is in her second year. Last year was a lot of fun, yeah! It was grrrreat, you know?
She met a lot of new friends, she went out to party a lot on St-Laurent and wore really uncomfortable high heels but looked so damn gorgeaous!

Today though, there are no high heels — she’s into the flip flops — she looked at all those videos on the web about poor countries and was like…. yeah !! Why am-I not allowed to do that …. wear flip-flops…
Or there is the more artsy girls who will go for the flat fabric shoes with no sole…. I guess everyone should be allowed to search for comfort….

But what I reproach these girls is that they all dress the same way. I mean there are subtle variations, but these variations are done at such a level that if a guy is looking at her every day and checking her out …. even he won’t see the difference !
So there is like a main theme, kind of like a dress code. I guess that makes a lot of sense– if these girls had uniforms in their high school (like Villa-Maria) then it is natural to want to continue to “fit-in” and follow some such clothing instinct.
And the only people that notice the variations and their “style expressions” are other girls. This creates a high-school style competition effect between these ladies and then…. by miracle, the same way an entire bank of fish suddenly turn at the same time in the water, they adopt the same clothes style.

To men, the women around then looks like an amorphous women-material that has sexual and status value. Both low-level, instinctive feelings without much heart to them — but hey what can you do when you’re busy getting soooo drunk every night man… craaazy…. awesome !

So what happens then? A two level system forms.

  1. The cosmetics, fashion and attitudes that these girls put on so that they will be liked, and hopefully fucked by that really hot blond guy from Oceanic Studies.
  2. And the cosmetics and fashion they wear to create an impression in other girls around them.

And whereas 1. is ultimately finite in nature, the second need (2.) really knows no bound.l It is all this fake, I look good and I’m cooler than you and so on and so forth.
Vantardise?

It is OK I guess. It is a problem with American culture. Not like it is the only one….. in fact I am glad I am interacting with the Americans in this way, rather than being bombed by them… Just touching their bombs :)

But it is not like all these kids are suddenly jumping on me. Besides, I am not really allowed to touch them or I would lose my girlfriend. It is easy to imagine good times when you are looking at all the energy that comes out of the U1 and U0 beauties. Yes, there are some fake ones, but I tell you there are some really hot ones too. Tall ones, piercing eyes, and big big curly hair…
But for every girl you meet — and everything you know about her, if you choose to go with her you would be losing what you know you have.

So this girl, this girl that I am describing to you… where is she now? It is funny how I can start to think about this though there is no flood of chix jumping on me at this point in time….. that is understandable when you are writing your book instead of socializing.

  1. I think you may have a thesis in Behavioral economics lurking around in this post. It’s all in the utility curves, man. Just be careful, they may intersect outside your current enquilibrium :)
