Kurdjali
The small internet cafe accross the street. Kids speaking Turkish and playing shoot-them-up on the network. These computers were not meant for office work…. hell there is no Acrobat reader!
The first few days in Kurdjalistan have been uneventful. It is a small town, it is as hot town. Not much going on no matter which way you look at it. I was jet-lagged so I didn’t do any useful work in the morning and the lunch time and later is 38 degrees in the shade that pins me to the indoors.
Coffee is cheap (20c). Beer is 45c. And I mean good beer. I am setting up something like an office in the living room but I am yet to do some real work. I’ll have to get the latest version of the paper and see what has changed in it recently.
Also, it is time to stop procrastinating and write down some introduction and background material for this thesis. If I put in a week’s worth of work I can then go to Sofia for a break.
Overall I am kind of feeling down. The GPs are a bit of an energy drain and I am not eating all that well. The summer in Montreal is so much nicer…. grass is greener on the other side syndrome.
I am starting to think that coming here so early wasn’t such a good idea. I mean sure I am helping out the family by taking the grandparents here but on a personal level I’m complicating the thesis writing, the spending-time-with-girls part, the enjoying summer part and all of that.
Well come to think of it this is only a temporary low in my outlook on life. There is nothing to do here so this is good for the thesis…. there is the dentist to see and take care of that root canal… then there is Sofia where I can live the high life for a while. Then there is the seaside and of course Petkovo.
So lets make a plan.
June 26th - June 29th: hardcore thesis work and touchups on the paper. 6AM to 11AM.
Weekend in the city…. maybe stay a while longer.
Hell fock the plans… lets live day by day. Me, always with these plans.
Can-I work on the thesis from Sofia? Go out early morning, sit in some coffee shop or the national library. Sofia is defenitely the place to be. Kurdjali is just depressing.
So the plan should be to get things done here so I can leave the GPs in autonomous mode to take care of their shit and then move to my city where the things are at.
Seaside later. Petkovo after the thesis is done. There is lots of time but if I want it to be vacation then I should really get cracking on the thesis.
Do a word frequency chart count on this post… how oftern does “thesis” come up?
