The Internet is Fake

Filed under: Stoned — ivan @ 12:30 am

There is nothing there. There is no friendship. It is too distant and too slow. When you meet people there is a certain presence, maybe feromones, maybe yet unknown energies and in general I disagree with the whole idea because

some things don’t fit in a fuckin’ check box.

This website is like the friends police. But only if you let it be the friends police. Only if you care.

I am like a leaf in the air.
I can swing either way because I am nothing.
I can use strong imagery and potry to disguise the lack of clarity in my thought.
Or be direct and clear like science lecture notes.

Why choose the word that sounds nice rather than the word that is right?
To put a sentence down on paper.
The distinction between man and animal.
Because it is only those who write who live on.
It is only their ideas that become part of the common consciousness.
Einstein is alive today, Feynman too in the hearts of physicists.
Shakespeare is still jumping around as if 25.

It is kind of like genetics but intellectual genetics. They don’t quite transfer from one generation to the next…. or do they?

The torah. The bible. The Quran.
They live on because they are the word of God.
Or are they the words of their authors?
But they teach us well.
They teach us respect and common sense.
Humanity always needs common sense otherwise it degrades into a chaotic state of conflict.
This is why communist ideas can never work.
The philosophy of the social contract amongst men is still as unresolved as ever.
“We won’t kill each other because it is better of for all of us….”
Note that this is happening in the supposedly primitive state of nature when everyone fends for themselves.
“Then they give up their right to defend themselves to some common “police” force so that the ‘police’ can defend them.”

I have news for you friends: the phrase of realism missing is:
“Suddenly some of us have more power than others,…. and put it to bad use killing and opressing the others”

You can see evidence to this on a micro-scale of personal relations and friends, the medium scale in small administrations and groups and on the scale of the world. It has always been like this. Just listen to the song to see some of the inspiration.

But I digress. It is time I got off this couch.

Bibliotheque Nationale

Filed under: Thoughts — ivan @ 6:02 pm

Which nation are they talking about exactly…. The Quebec Nation? No offence but I am not sure Quebec is a nation.
The place is nice though. I can see myself coming here to work on stuff. There are a few nice places to sit down and have a view of the East town. That combined with cafe l’Utopic (552 Ste. Catherine E.) just next door from here could be a good combo.

I know so many nice places to study now… if only I was studying…

Oh and I am completely done with my M classes. No more baby no more. The time has come for me to prove my worth to myself and the scientific community. I printed out today some research papers….

Oh and I have the prettiest student for ODEs. I had to learn half the Boyce and DiPrima book so that I won’t look like an idiot in front of her. She laughs at my stupid jokes and accepted to have beer with me. She’s nice… really nice.

And where the fuck is the summer ?!!

Filed under: Uncategorized — ivan @ 11:15 am

There is a new tool single out and about on the net. It is the first track from the recently leaked album. That stuff is jut brilliant.

The paper is not being written very fast. But slowly I am starting to know what I am talking about.

Days

Filed under: Thoughts — ivan @ 9:52 am

Some days get wasted away. Some days just pass you by and you go to bed feeling bad because you didn’t accomplish anything and fell further behind schedule.
Some days are like that.
This morning I had found the inspiration and I wrote some decent structured material. I’d say there were 5h of continuous quality Ivan concentration. The project started taking shape. Then people started coming in, smoking joints, asking me to do things for them (nothing much but it broke the concentration) and then when they left I lost track of my energy principle. Defenitely there is a correlation!
It’s OK though. I have today. A new day. I am up relatively early. I have to go to school but that is OK too because it is a nice day. I’ll write this paper, print a first draft and hopefully be done by this evening - tomorrow I hand it in and then I am free.

This summer I will be productive.

Good Times

Filed under: Physics — ivan @ 3:19 pm

I have been celebrating a little earlier than I should be. I wrote the G.R exam yesterday and that was a joke! Half th equestions were the same as on our midterm and the other half were from last year’s final that had been circulating by e-mail for the past week. Everyone is going te get 100%. I am really happy I solved one problem that I miserably failed to solve on the midterm… theis time i had a better idea about what to do and managed to get through the awkward notation….

Now I have just the paper to write and a homework - the writing of which has put me into a morning procrastination mode: the worst mode of them all.

I had an idea though…. what if you were to sell preconfigured Linux servers for home use. Using one of them web based configuration managers and a nice documentation package the average non-linux techie could get a lot of things from a basic debian install.

  1. SAMBA file server
  2. Download Manager (for torrents, limewire and other P2P)
  3. Network management and monitoring
  4. Remote access to your files
  5. Encrypted data storage
  6. Web server (with dynamic DNS)
  7. VoIP capabilities

Basically all the things that the reasonably saavy linux user can configure in a minute or two….
So the deal is that you are selling the hardware… and a NICE well written user manual that goes with the functionnality.
What is the difference from selling a distro? Why get into hardware? Is this a stupi idea? YES.

Coming to an End

Filed under: Graduate Life — ivan @ 3:03 pm

The semester is (almost) over. I know because I have been filling out teacher evaluations lately. Both Brandenberger and Hayden have been top notch this semester. If all my education was like this I would be a really smart kid by now!

Next monday is the last day of classes and Tuesday is the G.R. final. Then I will have a little bit of a paper to write and then it is all done. What am-I going to do this summer? The only thing I can think of right now is chillin’ and playing soccer as much as possible. Maybe work on the book project — it would be nice but will-I actually ever sit down and do it?

MONTREAL PILLOW FIGHT CLUB: Fridat April 7th at 7PM. At the Dorchester Square park. (wiki) .
Now that I think of it is a pretty stupid idea… but you never know with these things…

Days of Sunshine

Filed under: Graduate Life — ivan @ 3:57 pm

While my productivity hasn’t changed much I am emjoying life a lot more now that the sunshine has returned. In fact I want to declare the official death of the 2005-2006 winter season!
Summer is Here!

I have a few major things to get through and then this semester will be done:

  • Assignments 7, 8, 9 in G.R.
  • Assignments 4, 5 in Quant. Info.
  • Submit the expense report
  • Write the paper for G.R. (topic?)
  • Find a topic for my thesis.
  • Apply for T.A. positions

Also there is some non-school outstanding tasks that have to be looked into:

  • Get laid.
  • Fixing things around the house… lamps, etc…

Overall the spirit is good though. I am keeping with the program of energy saving but I am not noticying any particular differences. I guess my mind is a little clearer than usual but I am not more motivated or less lazy.

Soccer tomorrow.
